The home rule of Seyðisfjörður has a meeting

The home rule of Seyðisfjörður suggested that a steering committee would be appointed and it would diagnose the status of housings and restoration in Seyðisfjörður postdating the landslides. The government should be pushed to keep their promise regarding assistance with the rebuilding of the town. The home rule wished that it would be investigated how the evacuation protocols were as well as the working methods reevaluated when it comes to decision making during uncertainty and catastrophic situations.

A dangerous complication occurred since the Icelandic Meteorological Office was in charge of the evacuation because of the risk of snow floods, but the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management was in charge because of increased risk of landslides and the home rule calls for a revision of the responsible parties and it made clearer who is responsible and when. It was emphasised that the residents of Seyðisfjörður continue to receive crisis counselling and that the school employees receive proper training in diagnosing crisis symptoms in children. Then the home rule talks about how important it is that work with Fjarðarheiðargöng starts as soon as possible, but if Fjarðarheiði had been closed on the day that the big landslide fell then the residents would not have been able to evacuate by land. They also say that there should be some information for the residents about the landslides, their consequences as well as about the future.
