Harmony with people

Ólöf Margrét Snorradóttir, pastor in Egilsstaðir, says that the people of Seyðisfjörður have shown an incredible solidarity during the catastrophe that has been happening. “people are still wrapping their heads around this all, it is quite unreal to many people. The spirit of gratitude is dominant, there were no casualties and that is of the utmost importance. And this harmony that everybody senses, that people is in this together. They feel a support from everyone,” says Ólöf. Residents of Seyðisfjörður have been there for each other for mental support, and the pastors in the area are also ready to help people.

“It was a precious sight. People really needed to see their neighbours and friends and receive in that way news and support. To be able to talk about what they had been through, what they saw and to hear what others had to say. It really helped a lot of people,” says Ólöf. “The Red Cross has been doing a fantastic job, it is magnificent to see how they put this all up in just a few minutes.” Ólöf wants to emphasise that people continue to look after one another. “Christmas is just around the corner. The holidays will be different from what has been, we knew that, but not that they would be so much different for so many people.”
