The Technical Museum quite wrecked

The main building of the Technical Museum of East Iceland was considerably damaged when the big landslide hit. The building that used to house the museums holdings, printing workshop, offices and archives is now submerged by mud and dirt. The following appears on the museums Facebook page: Around three o’clock yesterday afternoon, two big mudslides fell in Seyðisfjörður. Unfortunately, many buildings were destroyed, a few incredibly old and with a great deal of history, furthermore the Technical Museum’s main building was much damaged. It was incredibly fortunate that that nobody was injured during this catastrophe and the evacuation of the town went smoothly. The building that used to house most of the museums holdings, printing workshop, offices, and archives is now buried under a heavy load of mud and dirt. Skipasmíðastöðin, that had a brand-new roof, and housed a workshop has literally disappeared. These days are difficult, full of uncertainty and dread, but nevertheless we keep on going and hope that this museum of Seyðisfjörður will have a brighter future.
