All real estate in the country has a mandatory insurance and the institution will cover those buildings, but the same does not go for furnishings that were damaged due to the landslides. The mandatory insurance of the Natural Catastrophe insurance of Iceland only covers the furnishings that have a fire insurance. That means that the residents that had not fire insured their furnishings will not have them covered by the institution, according to Hulda Ragnheiður Árnadóttir CEO of the Natural Catastrophe insurance of Iceland.
