Residents of Seyðisfjörður do not receive permission to return to their homes today

Fjarðarheiði is closed for all traffic. Rescue teams, police and specialists that assess when it is safe for people to return to their homes are the only ones allowed into town. They will use the daylight to assess the magnitude of the mudslides as well as the risk of more landslides happening. There is a need for assessing the damage and status of the infrastructure of Seyðisfjörður. When the town was evacuated yesterday, people were brought to a mass remedial station in Egilsstaðir. At least eleven buildings were damaged, but they will work on the assessment today. The evacuation status will be reassessed tomorrow morning
