Kristján Torr narrates, December 17th

During evacuation-boredom I grab the opportunity and dropped by the house to pick up some important equipment and later that same day they declare a crisis. In the daytime there is not much to do other than drink coffee, smoke cigarettes and take photographs, but it is hard to get a good focus because of the wetness and shaking hands. To watch people pass by driving and walking over the landslide by Skaftfell is quite surreal. I see a man taking fuel in the middle of a landslide which is still moving and I think to myself that this is a unique incident on an international scale. In the evening, the rain continues and I, along with my neighbour at the hotel, who owns a house that is located in the middle of the landslide, look at numbers from an observatory for Seyðisfjörður and we calculate that the cumulated precipitation is now at 600mm and agree on that something terrible is about to happen.
