A preliminary report because of avalanche risk at Stöðvarlækur points to that it is not a realistic option to fight landslides in the area with ease. In spite of avalanche defences, the habited area by Stöðvarlækur would still be in a danger area C and that is why the local government agrees that residency will not be permitted in the area. Because of that the local government asks for support from the Icelandic Avalanche and Landslide Disaster Fund to buy up buildings in the area: Hafnargata 40b, Hafnargata 42, Hafnargata 42b and Hafnargata 44b.
